The waiting game
I'm sure you will all be thinking what is happening down at Withybed !!
Not much to report i'm afraid except that we are very, very close to completing our discharging of conditions attached to the planning permission. The delays have been due to design issues mainly with stormwater discharge from the site, attending to that 1 in 100 year rainfall event in the design calculations is no easy task.
For those of you who keep asking, We shall be publishing our proposed competitive tarrifs and our mooring terms and conditions in the near future.

Discharging Planning conditions
Still awaiting confirmation of the discharge of planning conditions set by Bromsgrove.
My appointed ecologist informs me that at present we do not have water voles habiting the canal frontage where we propose to form the marina entrance therefore it is unlikely we will have to implement mitigation works, however a monitoring programme will be maintained right up to the digging of the first sod.
Those nocturnal "fellas" the bats are still being surveyed to ascertain whether we need that license from Natural England to remove an oak and hedgeline for deposition of earth won by excavations.

Landscaping Plans have been submitted
Take a look at the latest landscaping plan we are submitting to the planning authority. Very careful consideration has been made to ensure the best planting options have been used. We have chosen indigenous species of Oak, Ash, Silver Birch, Wild Cherry, Field Maple and Hazel for the copse planting. The swale or large ditch with stone filled gabion will attenuate the green field run off and improve infiltration thus lessening the impact on the Withybed Brook which in recent years has suffered with flooding.
For the damp areas, a suitable widlflower seed mix will be sown. Within the Moorings, inlets will be created and will have native marginal and emergent planting to encourage a water vole habititat. To find out more details please download the Planting Plan

Hedgerows and Bats
As the aforesaid hedgerow needs removing there are of course ecological implications regarding primarily to our nocturnal friends the Bat.
Dawn to Dusk Survey The ecologist has been briefed and is conducting a dawn and dusk survey of the hedgerow to ascertain whether the hedge lies on their flight path or contains any roosts. If found, a license would be required from Natural England before any removal or felling.
The plan for the landscape is to replant this hedgerow on completion of deposition works.

Register your interest
Withybed Moorings offers excellent secure mooring for 74 narrow boats, still in its developmental stage this is a great time to reserve your mooring and choose your position on the marina

A New Marina for Alvechurch
Wythbed Moorings is an exciting new development of a 75 berth soft edged marina. The off line secluded marina is just North of the Tardebigge Flight with excellent access to the adjoining waterways of the The Avon, Birmingham, Stourport Warwickshire annd The Droitwich Canals.
The pontoon moorings have access to toilets, showers, laundry, electricity, water and fuelling facilities. A gated entrance from Alvechurch (just minutes from J2 M42) offers parking and hard standing for visitors and moorers.

Earthworks v 22 degrees
The earthworks design have been problematic and as such the gradient of the cutting into the rising ground has been changed to a less steep angle of approximately 22 degrees, for slope stability reasons, resulting in a larger volume for deposition across the site.
Preservation is a priority While I have made every effort to preserve all hedges and trees, reluctantly there is a need to remove 1 semi mature oak tree and a hedgerow to allow fill material to remain on site. (retaining all the excavations on site was a critical factor in gaining the consent : Reason : lorries exporting waste off site equate to a large carbon footprint, a waste transfer needing a license and of course extra unwelcome cost)

Earthworks and drainage scheme are in FINAL STAGE
The earthworks and drainage scheme are in final design stage.
I am hoping to deliver the various schemes to the local planning authority in April in order to discharge the conditions attached to the planning consent.
Arboriculture After conducting the arboriculture survey earlier this month across the whole site, in order to comply with a condition to protect the trees and hedges from the development, I had a visit from the railway engineers informing us that they were going to remove all the hedge and trees on our/their boundary by way of improving visibility for the signal system they have in place.
The following week the deed was done, so much for the preservation of trees!!!
